How should I get to Buenaventura Resort?
Buenaventura resort is 2-3 hours from Panama City/PTY airport and easily accessible by rental car. We will be exploring and arranging bus transportation as well, likely from Panama City on Friday morning and from near PTY airport on Saturday, depending on transportation demand.
What can i get as a gift?
Please do not get any gifts, your presence is our gift - we realize it is not easy to travel internationally and are so glad you are coming!
What's the sequence of events/how should I think about logistics?
We will be staying in Panama City on Thursday night. For those who are coming in early (or coming a few days early to explore the city) we'll have some sort of get together Thursday night in Panama City. For those that arrived Thursday or early Friday morning there will be arranged transportation from the city to Buenaventura resort (which is 2-3 hours away) on Friday, and there will be a welcome BBQ on the beach Friday evening.
Those coming in Saturday will probably want to go directly to the resort (we are looking into arranged transportation from near the airport). The ceremony and party will be in the evening.
We will be exploring transportation options from the resort to the airport on Sunday.
Of course, guests are free to extend their trip in either direction: at the resort, in the city or in the other beautiful parts of Panama !
Can I bring my children?
Of course! We are still discussing whether or not the saturday party itself will be adults only or not; if we go the adults only route, however, we will be providing child care.
What is the Plan for Friday?
Friday will be the day of transportation from Panama City to the resort where the party will be at, Buenaventura, by way of a Canal Tour for most of you.
Logistics: Buses will leave at 9 am on Monday. Unfortunately tour buses this large can't enter casco proper so they will be picking people up right outside of casco antiguo. Depending on how far you are I probably suggest pooling some ubers with people staying at a similar hotel (remember you will be coming with your luggage). Here is the pickup location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Plaza+V+Centenario/@8.9542926,-79.5360449,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x8faca8caf3a660d7:0xe3173dfacf93281f!8m2!3d8.9542926!4d-79.5360449!16s%2Fg%2F11bbrm1k7q?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDMxMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D.
The buses will be stocked with beer, snacks and water (there are no open container laws in Panama!). You should get to the hotel sometime around 3:30 ish.
For those going direct stay tuned I will ping you directly but you'll probably leave later like 11 or so; transportation to the hotel will be 2-3 hours.
After everyone settles in on Friday, we will have a BBQ at 6 pm at El Faro Beach Club. This is a short walk for guests at the hotel. For those at one of the properties we can help arrange property transportation for you at check in (some of your rentals may even come with a golf cart).
The dress code for BBQ is as casual as you want to be; it may be hot.
What are some things to do at Buenaventura Saturday?
1. Hang by the beach/pool. Buenaventura has many pools and a few different beach clubs but the main center which has many pools and beach access and a restaurant/bar is El Faro, which is where the Friday BBQ will be. This is probably the best area for low key hanging out, and having beers, fried fish and french fries all day. It can get crowded but is great.
2. Some people seem to like golf, I think there is probably good golf! There are also tennis courts, pickleball courts, bicycles, etc. There is also a sad zoo.
3. Fishing - Some people have already chartered some fishing boats. If you would like to be connected with those people let me know.
4. Extreme adventures has a bunch of activities (snorkeling, scuba, parasailing, jetskis, etc.) that leave either at El Faro or nearby the resort. The brochure, pricelist and contact information have been included in an email, let us know if you need them again.
5. Panama trails operates a bunch of day trips and experiences from Buenaventura, those were also attached to a previous email.
Will I have to walk in heels with sand during the ceremony/party?
No, but there will be some grass during the ceremony.
What are transportation options back from Buenaventura?
We will be providing transportation back (to both the city and the airport) in two waves, one bus at 9 am on Sunday and another at 12 pm on Sunday. If you are using one of these you should have told David already and if not please do so ASAP!.
If you are leaving later or on monday you will have to self arrange transportation with the hotel, which we can help with. We can also help pool people leaving around the same time for external transportation or rented cars.
How should I change my money? What power adapter should I bring? How will I get cell service?
You don't have to change your money or get a power adapter! Panama's official currency is the dollar (although they have some sort of coins called balboas which are just cents by another name/look) and all your power adapters will work.
If you want cell service, you can do something complicated with a SIM card (you can do something even more complicated with a virtual SIM card, I think). However most plans offer something like $5/day international roaming service if you just call your carrier and make sure it is activated.
How can I stay informed during and before the weekend? I am aware this is a Latin American country and there will be last minute changes and it is important to be dynamic and flexible.
Great point! You can stay connected using the wedding whatsapp channel (linked below). Also we suggest getting whatsapp for the trip as it is the primary messaging app used in Panama.
